We all hear and read about the importance of staying active physically, but what about the importance of staying active mentally? How can we work on both the physical aspect of health and the mental aspect of health together? Learning how to focus on Mind Body Connection.
Our mind and body are connected through neural pathways made up of neurotransmitters, hormones, and chemicals. What does that mean? In simple terms it means that those pathways control our everyday functions physically and mentally. Think about it this way, when you are working out physically but your mind isn’t there mentally and not in the present moment how do you think you will physically perform? Probably not the best. Which happens occasionally because of life. But, when you are working out physically and your mind is there mentally and in the present moment you will most likely perform better. Your mind and body are interlinked. When your mind is in a calm stress-free state your body physically feels good. When you physically feel good your mind is generally in a good state.
Try to remind yourself to
*Use your thoughts to positively influence your physical bodies responses
*Use your physical body to positively influence your thoughts
There are many different ways on how to strengthen your mind body connection.
- Meditation- taking as little as 5 minutes out of your day to meditate you are giving your mind and body the chance to focus on nothing but being in the present moment.
- Mindfulness- taking as little as 5 minutes out of your day to meditate but purposely being actively aware in the present moment.
* Meditation and Mindfulness go hand in hand. You can do each separately or you can put them together as one meditation.
- Yoga- there are many different types of yoga, but yoga in general is a great way to focus on movement, breath and being in the present moment. Vinyasa and Yin are my personal favorites!
I hope these tips help you enhance your Mind Body Connection like they have helped me! You want to be the best version of yourself both physically and mentally !
